Hey all,

Quick question. I was smoking some chicken quarters along with some other stuff the other day and it was getting dark out so it had to be getting late and of course I had to many brown pops. Tipsy to say the least.

Well I had my igrill out with one probe in the chicken thigh and the other probe keeping an eye on the smoker temp. I checked the chicken at one point and it read 139 and a few minutes later the alarm was going off on the I grill and it was reading 220-229.

I pulled it out and stuck it in another thigh and it took a few minutes but it went back to 220+. Now I'm assuming this probe went bad? The smoker was 220/235 for my smoke so somehow it was reading the smoker temp???

I'm not sure so I was hoping y'all could shed some light on it.

I just pulled out another probe and it worked fine. Chicken, venison jerky, and babybacks all came out great. No real Qview cause I was sauced up myself from all the beer and Jim beam. Only pick I took all day was this one of the wonder dog guarding the smoker:

Thanks for any help y'all might have for me.

Chicken thighs are small with then meat. You may have had the probe too close to the surface reading more of the smoker temp.

The easiest test is to put it in Boiling Water. It should read within a degree of 212°F at sea level. You can try " stirring " Ice Water, lots of ice and a little water. It should read 32°F. Some Probes can be repaired...JJ

I did do a boil test on both probes when I bought them and they were within 2 degrees. I haven't however boil tested them since this incident as I tried moving the probe into a few different thighs and within minutes each time the temp spiked on each one of them.

I'll give them another test this week and see where were at.
