I found some 55 gallon steel drums and I wanted to use it for a fire pit, but I am not sure what was in it.  Would it be ok to use it if I ran 5 or 6 fires through it?  I wasn't sure if you could just burn off the fumes or if it would cause problems in the future.

Thank you,

T.C.

tcfls2,

this should work fine as long as they are hot fires. Also if you can sand blast first would help.

Hope this helps

Thanks, that does help.  I live in west texas, so I could probably find 100 barrels that had oil before I could find one food grade barrel.

yea to bad your 2.5 hours from lubbock you can find food grade barrels all day long on CL for 18 bucks or cheaper a piece ( I live in Amarillo) you can also let them 'soak' in degreaser and hot soapy water then wash them good with a power washer before you you light some fires this will make your barrel last longer as you wont have to fire it as much to burn off the residue. Good luck
