ya know this site has a gift of knowlage.it also has a gift of generosity.. let me explain .. for 25 years of my life i made sure your meat was fresh..i worked for thermo king corp out of mpls minn..ya we are the guys who put them reefers on them trucks.after i made my 21 st anniversity we were bought out ..it took 4 more years till i had my eviction papers..what to do.. i had a friend in oregon..near dayton ..so when i lost my job i moved to oregon..stayed with him got there sept 22 2001 remember 911... i hold a class a cnc rating in fabracation.after 911 i couldnt get a job to save my soul.. around thanksgiving i went to visit my 2 daughters till after the new year..when i returned to oregon ..i started my job search with much more energy..same results..mac ds even turned me down.taco bell god i really felt down..then 1 day i drove by the kfc in newberg oregon..sign saying we are hiring..had to stop..was hired on the spot by a women who was my age.she was looking for dependable employees... after a couple months there ..i pretty much became the main guy ..why because of my ability to enjoy whaT I DID .. cooking..just so ya know ..i changed the kfc recipe..shhhhhhhhhh.when i started we avraged around $1500 for daily sales.. when i changed the recipe in april 2002 we started growing fast..when i finaly left kfc in july we had an avrage daily sales at $3100..but i think the 1 thing i did that goes with this website the best is when we closed we took the left over chicken ,..some we deboned for pot pies the rest they wanted to throw out..i collected this chicken mostly legs thighs and wings.. took the mashed potatoes gravy and any dishes that were going to be tossed..i bagged them all up..if any of you are familiar to oregon ya know they have a high imigrent population..well in the area i was at they lived in shacks..bout the size of my fish house back in minnesota..12x8.that area held about 50 families..but i started dropping that chicken off every day ..soon they gatherd for me.by the end of may ..they cheered when they saw me comming. ya also have to figure this i only made $6.50 an hour..so i took every shift i could..i usualy worked 7 days a week. they really honered me on the day i left.. for me it was the smiles i got from the kids..they would grab a leg of chicken and my god the smile ya never forget doing the right thing..i was proclaimed the infamous chicken man from newberg oregon... they didnt have anything to really give me ..but the smiles on the kids faces and the saddness knowing i was leaving ,, but before i left i did my best to encourage some one to replace there needs..but as all of you smoke great meats ..always keep in mind of your surroundings especily thoes who dont have what you do...ya got left over .make a new friend. look at your neighbors..maybe the family ya dont really know..here i am in michigan and i continue to try to help the less fortunate,..the pic i display on my profile..i had guests who were living in poverty here..this isnt an easy town to find work that pays..with all my knowlage in fabracating i only made $850 an hour doing that...thank you sara lee for providing the means to make a diffrence in peoples lives..so look around ..find a way..make a differnce to somebody and you creat a positive for everyone....smoke on my friends smoke on .mike
