Last weekend i tried just cranking the temp up all the way to get the wood going. Also threw in a couple pieces of charcoal to help with the ring.

But, i was thinking about trying out soaked wood chips tomorrow when i smoke. I used soaked chips in my coal smoker. but, now that i have an electric one i have not tried soaking.

What do you all do.?

I use dry wood chunks in both my electric and my SnP. I also throw in some RO lump in the electric too.

I only get very little smoke ring sometimes, but just started this summer. I read somewhere that aa piece of charcoal can help; something to do with the nitrates I think.

yeah, thats what i do. I throw about 2-3 pieces in. and get some really good rings.

start off with 6 to 8 charcoal and small handfull of dry chips plug er in and let er rip. i only add wood after smoker reachs temp.

Do NOT soak your chips!!!

to soak or not to soak good ????????????.
i used to soak and always had some left over and if you forget to dump out the water it gets rank real fast.
i found dry smokes just as well and maybe even a little better flavor in my opion

That seems to be the general idea around here.

I know when i had my coal smoker, i soaked them beacuse it seemed to cut down on flare ups.

With chips, possibly yes.....i'm sorry

Dump the chips and use chunks!
Theres not a smoker out there that can't use some form of chunk.

I use dry all the time since here, no fire, in a good sealed unit.
