Just starting out and want do know the best place to buy your wood, I understand it isn't cheap at the box stores but they do have it in chunks and splits in 40 pound bags. Would it be the best route to go until you get the hang of things since I don't really know how much you use on a smoke. It is just the two of us so there's not a big crowd to smoke for.

The bags of flavor chunks at the big box or at Academy sports is a good way to go for them. As for cooking wood, check with your local firewood dealers or tree trimmers. The tree trimmers are especially good after a storm. You can tell them what you want to pick up and that's just some that they don't have to fool with. After a storm, you can even find some good wood by the curb.

as was said any of the big box hardware stores  home depot lowes etc  all have wood chunks. also bbq  shops should  just google bbq shops in your  area, or you could go the amazon route.  if you're looking for  actual wood like logs online classifieds  in your area  like craigslst  etc have  guys selling  it just  search keywords like hickory/ oak/ cherry etc  bbq   smoker
