I'm kinda surprised after a search to see that there is very little history on smoking mushrooms. I was thinking of cold smoking some and was hoping to find some ideas on what type of mushrooms are preferred and what wood to use. Is it safe to cold smoke some or do I need to hot smoke them ? Also thinking of using apple dust or pellets.

Ideas?

HMMM, never thought about it, I wonder if @bauchjw has ever done it, Jed is the shroom Jedi. He sent me some Maitake shrooms that I roasted and where awesome. I bet they would smoke real good. I bet this question puts it in the mind of many here.

I have smoked some portabellas. They are meaty and take up the smoke well.
I do prefer them on the grill though. With a little good balsamic and some melted mozzarella.
Put that on a toasted ciabatta with some sliced avocado and hot sauce.
