Hello, my name is VTMechEng and I am addicted to smoking..... food.
Good now that I have that off my chest. I'm from Norther Virginia and got my first smoker back in 2008, an ECB because I wasn't sure how much I would actually use the thing. Well, it ends up I used it a lot and now I have a Landmann propane smoker that makes the whole thing just a little easier. Being a mechanical engineer I like being able to fine tune the temperature, smoke output, and air flow so the propane option just seems to fit. My favorite meat to smoke is a pork shoulder, now I want pulled pork, but love to smoke just about anything that sounds like it will be tasty. As a deer hunter I also smoke a lot of venison roasts and have had great luck with them using a touch of walnut to complement the stronger flavors. Beyond that I love to fish, though I haven't smoked anything beyond salmon yet. I wonder if striped bass would be good with a light cherry smoke? I'm also an avid cyclist which may explain at least some of my obsession with food because it takes a lot of energy to put ride hard for 2 hours. I joined smokingmeatforums.com to search for recipes and get new ideas for smoking. Hopefully I will be able to provide a few for others along the way as well.
