Ok, so trying to be the nice guy I decided that while my wife and son were away for a week, that I would get our backyard converted from a dirt patch to a stamped/colored concrete patio and lawn.  This worked out prefectly as it was done just in time for my son's 1st birthday a few weeks ago.  I decied to throw a few burgers on the smoker, and my wife said "NO!! You are not putting those things on the patio!"

Since the patio is the only area in the backyard that I can place them, how can I place my smokers on the patio and still protect the patio?

Thanks All.

Several things come to mind

1 Seal the concrete in the area where you want to put the smoker so the grease can not penetrate

2 Use an auto oil drip pan to go under the smoker

3 Use a sheet of plywood under the smoker. If you want to leave it full time, paint it the same color as the concrete

4 Use a plastic or tarp when you use the smoker

I also found these on Amazon

I am sure others will be along with more suggestions - these were just things I thought of right off the bat

You can make a smoker platform for your smoker.

1. Get a sheet of Marine Grade plywood   This is not cheap but is worth it. Regular plywood will blister and delaminate after being left out in the weather.

2. Cover top of plywood with tile backer board. You can screw it on.

3. Tile top of platform with tile of your choice and grout. But be sure to use a tile suited for outdoor use like terra cotta.

4. trim the outside edge with a nice 1 by and paint or stain.

This will give you a surface that will not only keep the grease off the patio but is also fireproof and looks good!

OR.............Tell the wife that you built the D#*n thing so you'll do what ever you want!

Not good for marital harmony but I like the way you think.

says I have too much stuff on the patio.  Gotta get a plan, that doesn't include moving to a different home. . . . . . .

Good luck with the project!!!

Thanks All,

I like the Side Patio, but since that side of the backyard is only 4ft wide it is not wide enough for the smoker and I am afraid of the possibility of flareups catching the fence on fire.   I called the guy that poured my concrete and he said to use the mats for now and in the spring to seal the patio.
