Hey all,
Im currently 14 hours into what should be a 14 hour smoke.. At 10 hours, 9 AM, my power flickered and it shut the smoker off. I just went to check on the butt and realized it had turned off. When I checked it just before the power surge the internal temp was 164. It was out for 3.5 hours and the internal temp got down to 106 before I caught it and turned the smoker back on. It's still ok, right? RIGHT?

It's fine.
If your smoker can go up to 300 degrees, finish it off in the smoker. If not, move it to the oven.

FWIW, consider using a separate digital thermometer set up to monitor your smoker temperature. Set the thermometer for high and low temp alarms and it will save you a lot of grief in the future.

Got it. Thanks for the help guys. Going to wrap it now.

I have a digital thermometer with the high temp limit. It doesnt have a low temp limit though.. It'd be neat to find a thermometer that follows the current temp and sets an alarm if it drops below 10 degrees of the highest temperature. Dually noted though. Was a bit of a panic worrying about bacteria growing. I figured since it was only a couple hours and it was still warm that it was good though.

Site sponsors ThermoPro and Inkbird make excellent therms that have high/low temp alarms.

Butts are considered whole muscle cuts. Thus, they're sterile on the inside unless injected. So, we are mostly concerned about surface cooties. Since you already reached 165 IT, any surface bacteria was long gone.

My TP-20 is the old version that lacks the low temp alarm. I highly recommend the Inkbird IRF-4S as it is a solid therm with high and lo alarm capabilities.

I'm glad we all could help you out here.
