Smoker grill

I want to build a grill/smoker for my back yard fire pit i have two fifty five gallon drums i want to lay the one drum over the pit with a door then weld another barrel standing up to one side of the other barrel with an insulated soor with angle iron for racks all custom cut and fitted of course this a good idea?
