Smoker box - just pull it out with an oven mitt to refill?

I have a cast iron smoker box in my Brinkmann electric. How do I get that thing refilled through the teeny weeny door?

I used a large vise grip pliers on the tabs of my GOSM.

Yes there are a myriad of ways to remove it, Vice Grips, Pliers, tongs, Oven Mitts, you name it, it works
