This is wide open. Prolly gonna have to add another exhaust. I made this way more complicated than need be. I wanted to go another route and plumb fresh air from bottom to the fire basket. I will post some more pictures in a bit.

Looks good. Not sure about that intake damper thou.

This cap sits on the intake pipe and pulls air directly to the fire basket and forces fuel to burn in a circular pattern no matter what. It works so far. This is first burn. I have to strip and paint outside. I am happy I went a different route with this but wouldn’t recommend it honestly. You can go way more simple and achieve same if not better results. So far temps are rock solid upper and lower racks with heat diffuser installed. I will update with removed and add intake/exhaust to make more effective higher temperatures

Yeah man it’s hard to justify but I could show you. It screws flat or open like picture. Think like old school wood stove. Same I built on my stik burner.

The damper is either open or shut. Not really adjustable.

It is on a bolt. Completely adjustable sir. Each thread.

This thing acts like a stick burner. Temp is 255 lower 270 upper wide open.
Barely cracked 238 lower 255 upper.
Rock solid for past 2 hours. Smoking some hot links.

Ya wide open. It really doesn't concern me because I don't cook anything over 275. Heat diffuser on or off doesn't change temp just hot spots where the charcoal is burning. Works real well in a snake type minion method. Temps do not spike at all. Settles in at 20-25 minutes in this weather and sticks. I suppose I can try more briquettes in my charcoal starter before I dump and see if initial temp rises and goes from there. I will update after that. It's solid temp and seems to burn for long periods. I will throw some pork on this weekend and rock it.

No obnoxious smoke just heat waves mostly after 20-25 minutes is really why I am not concerned. This thing will BBQ well but will need some tinkering for grilling/searing.

I can hit over 400 with mine. With the lid off I can grill with it. Sorry if it seems like I am pick on you. Just trying to help. 275 is a great temp. It should cook along time.

No I'm good. Thick skin, retired military.
Like I stated above man I went a different route with the basket and it will work extreamly well for BBQ. I got a torch and a welder so it's just a little hacking and slashing to make it versitle. I update to share experience. I like to do stuff different to make it mine even though tried and true methods are out there. I am super pumper at the stable temps and can build on this easily.

Lid off temps fall. Not drastically. 10 to 15 degrees but instantly level back off to previously adjusted temperature with lid reinstalled. Haven't had a fire choke out in 3 burns. Just needs more air in and out to reach higher temps. I'd honestly say I'd rather have it this way instead of having temps spike. Like I said it acts like a stick burner which I think is kinda cool.

Got temps up to 340 today no issues. Dabbed up a block off plate quick like to use a snake burn. Got 9hrs at 250 with this setup. Still a lot of coal left. Digging this thing. Darker ribs on the left are a bulgogi style mop unwrapped. The mahogany ones on the right were comp style wrap just trimmed not cut.

Here ya go man. Something along the lines of this.
I bought the Heavy Duty ones that Home Depot sells. Which are way heavier. I had to grind away material where the blushes are inside of the barrel and welded them. Used a square from the top to keep them equal.

Where did you get your adjustable brackets for the grates?
