We are getting a RD here and I can't wait. Their web site says that a restaurant license or caterer, etc. to buy a membership. I thought I read somewhere that a person could buy there if they had a KCBS membership. Can anyone give me some info on this? Thanks, Joe

I would also like to know. I was on their site today and wanted to register but don't have any friends in the food service business. Can someone PM me if there is a trick to it. TY guys.

The KCBS is supposed to be a One Day Pass. I have heard that some RD locations don't pay that close attention and guys been going more than once. I have not tried it yet...JJ

I got a membership card through a friends business. They are pretty lenient on what kind of business it is so I'm pretty sure it doesn't have to be a food related business. The membership itself is free but you have to have a business license that allows you resell products and charge tax. Majority of the food I buy there is tax free but I suppose there are some products, prepared foods and such that they don't charge tax for that they are expecting your business to charge. rhe prices are always good and they have every cut of meat you could ever imagine. My only warning is to be aware of the sale prices at supermarkets because sometimes they are better than restaurant depots prices. For example, RD is advertising St. Louis ribs for 3.09 lb as being on sale when a local supermarket has the same brand for 2.99.

Whether RD charges tax wholly depends upon the exact type of state-issued tax exemption supplied to RD by the applicant: manufacturers, or resellers. The RD software will guide the employees as to which series of exemption is supplied and will red-flag any sale, at the check-out, if tax should be charged, and is not.
