I have a Masterbuilt 2 door gas smoker and like many have had flare up problems. I now use a different chip pan that solved the flare up issue. However, the wood chips are reduced to charcoal and not ash and it produces a heavy resin on the bottom of the water tray and to a lesser degree on the meat..... any suggestions

Welcome aboard! Glad you joined us. You've found a great place to learn and share ideas. Lots of friendly an knowledgeable folks here who really enjoy helping one another. Just ask when you need help and you'll get plenty.

Lots of people, me included, have occasional flare ups in the chip pan of gassers.  And the creosote buildup can be an issue too.  I would suggest you talk to tjohnson (Todd), a member here and the owner/operator of A-Maze-N Products (See the link at the bottom of the page).  He can advise you better than me, but it sounds to me like you might need one of his tube smoke generators.  I use an AMNPS all the time, and love it.  Todd's smoke generators are creosote free, and can produce hours of perfect, thin blue smoke on one load of pellets or sawdust.  Plus Todd's customer service is second to none.

Thanks SeenRed, I hadn't heard of the A-Maze-N Products and had been wondering how to cold smoke some salmon this fall, The Tubes look like the perfect solution to my resin problem as well as the cold smoking of the salmon. I checked the web page and reviews .. all positive
