Should I go for a 700 classic or a 700 fb? The Austin xl is just out of my price range. I like the black\bronze look of the classic.

I would increase you budget and get the XL
Sometimes increasing the budget is out of the question, but he's right. Even if you have to wait a month or so to save up the extra bucks.

That said, if I had to choose between the 700 and the 700 FB I would go with the FB. The sear station will come in handy when you need it.

I have the 700FB and it does great for me

If i can put my 0.02 into the matter... if you do a little research and looking around, you might find a austin xl in your range... I've seen them go as low as $124 at walmart...
Use brickseek to find out if there's deals near you

I took the plunge and ordered a pit Boss 700classic. I think I would be just as happy with it as I would with an Austin XL. I was lucky that my wife approved the 700classic there was no sense in pressing my luck for an AustinXL. I had to have it delivered because it won't fit in my honda. I have no friends with a pickup truck the bad news is that it will be delivered on the day after my heart surgery I won't be able to lift anything More than 10lbs for a week so it will be over a week before I can even assemble it, bummer.

Dont know where you are 357mag but if in the Knoxville area we can find you some help, prayers for a quick recovery

Thank you Mike,I am in North Carolina, about a 4 hour drive from Knowville, I just checked my order and the estimated delivery date is for 3/8 a week earlier than the first estimate, so I should be good. I should be able to have it up and running before my surgery in fact I should be able to do a cook before my surgery that way I will have some smoked food to eat during my recovery.

Hi there. I am in Chapel Hill and I would be happy to help you if you need help. Since I am retired, every day is Saturday.
I am drive to the Triad in less than an hour. Always happy to help another smoker enthusiast.

Think I been on a lake in Chapel Hill while I was stationed at Ft Gordon back in the 70's
