question re: digital thermometer

I was thinking since I got me one of them there fancy wireless thermometers for christmas, and I already got a butch of other digital and analog ones in the drawer. would it work if I just suspended the little rod in my smoker and used the wireless one to moniter my smoker temps from inside the house? this would be real handy for two reasons, one I wouldn't have to keep going outside to check the smoker temps and there for I would not freeze out my house as much and two I own 2 dogs and walking from the back door to the smoker by the fence is kinda like walking in a mine field only the wife would blowup if I stepped in anything lololol

You can use a large paper clip to connect it to the grate, a grate clip or some people stick it in a tater.

how do you stick it in a tater? wouldn't that only give you the temp of the tater?

stick it so the end of the temp probe is sticking outta the TATER...........i use a piece of hickory wood.....i drill a hole in it, and stick my probe thru that.........

so all i need todo is make sure it's suspended in air and not touching the metal grill? make sence I'll try it tomorrow when i'm smoking my newyears turkeys, i got 5 turkeys and 2 butt to smoke tomorrow

hehehe.....yeah rich............it was a HUGE hunk of hickory outta the bag.......we don't always have spuds around.........so used this......it has a NICE smokey color.........LOLOL


but know that i got my maverick.....it has a grate clip.........but NO plans on retiring the wood chunk.........for one, its TOO purdy now........and i plan on getting a replacement probe for the accurite, so i will have 2 digi's.......getting up there........not quite the FOUR that meowy uses tho.....lolol
