Question about bottom firebox smokers?

I was wondering how and how well the smokers with the firebox underneath work? I may have found an old grill I am thinking of getting, and converting to a smoker by adding a firebox under neath. Any thoughts or opinions?

I was just thinking about this. I added an offset to the side. It works ok, but I beleive it work MUCH better if the fire box was located underneather with stacks at either side. I have seen double stack barrels the same way. 

So I say go for it, it will provided an easier even temp and smoke.

If you put the firebox underneath, just make sure you have a place for a waterpan. Other than that it should work just fine.
