Hi, I'm new to this forum but not to smoking! The floor of my smoker rusted out, so I replaced it with sheet metal. I replaced the burner and had to fashion most of the rushed burner box with sheet metal.
However, the burner will not ignite. I used a lighter to start it. Full propane tank and when testing the venturi valve output, a flame ignites with a stream of about 3-4 inches.
I can't buy a new smoker and thought these repairs would work. Any thoughts? Greatly appreciated!

All things being equal, if you can't buy a new/er smoker, those lighters work great and don't cost much.
If the smoker works well otherwise, I would just light it by hand.
Perhaps cleaning the pizeo contacts would help?

I don't mind using the lighter. The problem is that the burner flame will not ignite. The burner is brand new, the nozzle of the venturi valve sticks into the burner tube about 3 inches or so. The venturi valve seems to work fine because I can light the flame coming directly out of the pinhole on the venturi valve tube. When I put the lighter at the burner edge to light it, I hear a "pop" of ignition but it doesn't remain lit. Is the "burner box" crucial to the proper operation of this thing? I hope not because it is over $30 to replace; not worth it.
