I hate what’s happened to the price of beef! Up until three years ago I was paying $4.99lb. for my yearly prime purchase, then they raised it a buck. Most of the grocery stores in my area had Xmas prime going for $7.99lb. this year, tho Smart & Final had a advertisement for $5.99lb. I went to S&F and all they had were little pre-cut 3-4 rib primes with much of the fat lopped off, had to walk out with nothing. There’s a chain up in my area, Food 4 Less, that advertises they’ll match or beat any advertised price. I walked in with the newspaper and walked out with my two whole primes at $5.99lb. My wife even called Costco to see if we were going to get some primes there and the butcher told her they were going $9.99lb. Where’s the love?

I’ve still got 18 pounds of cubed wild hog meat ready for sausage in my freezer along with about 35 pounds of porkbutt I bought last year at this time for 99¢ lb. Two fishing trips to the coast netted us about 40 pounds of rockfish and lingcod fillets and the meat from 24 Dungeness crabs. I’ve got enough wild hog Italian sausage and crab-shrimp-ricotta ravioli made up to get me thru my new hip install without having to rely heavily on my wife’s cooking. Hope y'all have a great holiday season and find a little something under the tree from Santa. RAY

Good find we had a coupon from a local paper that got us $5.99 a pound. We only need a 4 bone so we asked for one, they trimmed nice center cut.

Good luck with the hip and Happy Holidays.

It was on sale here in DC at Giant foods for $4.99. Haven't seen that price in several years.
Oh man, I would have jumped all over that! I make my buy every year at this time and back off the rib bones to slice nice thick boneless ribeye steaks. I shrink-wrap them and a couple of whole primes last me just about thru the year. Up until 5-6 years back I'd get one about every six weeks and have a little prime dinner and steak out the rest, just seem to eat a lot more chicken, pork, and fish these days. My wife won't eat beef cuts, only burgers, and my FIL doesn't have the teeth for it, I never get to do a prime rib anymore. Ah well.......... RAY

We have Food For Less here too. They have some pretty decent sales all year if you buy 10lbs or more. Got our prime this year at Ray's for 5.99. Fred Meyer's had it for the same price. Costco has good beef but rarely if ever on sale.

I was telling Bear, I live in Texas lots of Beef but Choice Angus Prime Rib was $12.99 a lb.  Crazy !!!!

I have got to where I never buy meat where it is on sale. I go to the other place and have them price match it. I find that I get a lot better cut of meat that way. The place that has them on sale just whacks it up as fast as they can. the place that has it for twice the price does a better trim and cutting job.

I wish you well on the hip replacement.

Happy smoken.

David

you can expect high prices for several more years. here in cattle country there has been 5 years of drought.

i used to see hundreds of cows out my window, thousands between here n town. now there are none.

we can't grow beef without rain.
