Well I cooked the 5 bone prime rib last saturday and it turned out really good. I went to 138IT and next time I will pull closer to 130. Not sure why i didnt get the same pink as bear. I also put more bold sauce on right before putting it on and i should have spread it out. Thanks to bear for all the recipes!

See I was a little torn b/c a friend of mine said he smoked his to 130 and it came out way too raw for him and his family but I never saw it so I just took his word for it. Plus bear cooks all of his to 138 so I thought well that's what I need to do.

Well I did let it rest a little bit which it could have cooked more. I had it resting for an hour. Like bear mentioned to me last week, it really didn't take much longer even though it had more bones. It was 11lbs and took about 6hrs.

But that's the name of the game. Next time I will try a few tweaks but like I said, it still turned out great and everyone liked it.

Yep any time I cook the rib eye roast / Prime rib the book of "Bear" is always where I start. Looks fantastic to me.

It looks Mighty Tasty to me!!
The reason it isn't as Pink from Bark to Bark as mine do, is because your Smoker Temp must have gotten well above 220°. Once your smoker gets 250° or higher it starts to lose the Pink.
I'd still be all over it !!

Mouthwatering! You certainly nailed it. Seems like you narrowed the learning curve and have the next target in sight. Congratulations.

It sure looks good from here!
We do like ours a bit more rare than that, so I usually pull mine out at 120-125.

I think i got the pics backwards but thanks to Al and Bear i improved onmy next prime rib cook. This time i took it offat 125 and let it rest. Then i seared it for a min on each side. I cooked in a weber with those side charcoal holders. It gave me a little trouble figuring out heat bc i wantedto keep it under 250 per bear. Taste and looks was a 9 out of 10. Almost a perfect cook!
