I could certainly live with those prices. I just can't see myself paying $100 for a slab of meat, unless I won the lottery or something. Thanks for sharing. Now I'm jealous.

Yeah compared to the rest of the country our brisket prices are always pretty good and if you want ground meat for less you can just buy a brisket and grind it. Chuck usually cost more per pound than brisket any day of the week so I think in Texas we cook less chuck for BBQ than other parts of the country.

We are so spoiled with brisket prices that most people I know only buy brisket when it is on sale unless it is a prime packer at Costco lol.

need to build wall like china, you don't see people sneaking into their country.

OH they want to build it on the border of Texas to the rest of the US! Makes sense to protect the brisket :emoji_joy::emoji_stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes::emoji_blush:

Lol. Typical butcher BS.

Our beef is also corn fed, unless it says grass fed in it - for which you will pay a lot more than the already shocking price.

We pay in general higher prices for beef than our American friends. Even when you account for this difference brisket is still more expensive. It coud cost as much a a prime rib roast. Maybe has something to do with the fact that is not a sought after cut. Other than BBQ jockeys and jewish cooks not much demand. Is also a scary cut for the regular consumer. (Due to size). And unlike a rib or strip roast you cant cut it in steaks.

I only smoked brisket twice - for this reason (price) i buy a whole rib roastAAA for less than $4/lb (on sale) . I never saw whole brisket for less than $5/lb.

Yeah, I suppose.

Luck of the draw though - just bought two 40# bags of pellets from a guy who owns a butcher shop. So I asked him... no... prodded him about the brisket. He confirmed it was expensive, but he will see what he can do for me. He suggested to snag a chuck if doing burnt ends. It sounds like chuck would be cheaper....?

Even if I just do it once, I would like to try a brisket though.

I'm in Ottawa, ON. My butcher's price for a brisket is $9/lb
I just about fell over when he told me that price too!

Unfortunately, i no longer buy my briskets there. Costco usually has some good ones in store, and the last one I bought was $70, and I think it was around 12lbs??

It seems like Costco is the go-to place. $70 is still up there tho. Maybe I'm just a bit cheap - I would find it somewhat difficult to fork out that much for one slab of meat.

If chucks are cheaper practice with some of those. I've eaten my fair share of shredded smoked beef chuck roasts that I thought was brisket meat.
Then when the day comes that you find a brisket sale or just want to cross it off your bucket list you can be ready :)

the last one I bought in SLC was $52... Chuck is a good option, but maybe a brisky every now and then - going without sounds like withdrawal..

If ya got a lot of people to feed, the shoulder clod is comparable to brisket, but almost 1/2 the price per pound. There will be parts you can slice, and other muscles that will shred for those that like chopped beef. The popularity of brisket is driving the price high.
I recently bought a 28lb. shoulder clod for $46 bucks... fed 60 people with it....most thought it was brisket.....

Yeah, that sounds like a viable option. Chuck is something I will need to snag from a butcher as the stores here don't sell it.

Interesting. I must look into this clod. I've never seen the name. Not because I am feeding many - I'm just a beef slob.
