I’ve had my Maverick 2000 for a little over a month now, and after just two cooks, I knew I had to ditch the stock controller. It was way too basic for a smoker this well-built—definitely the "weak link" in the setup. I swapped in the FireBoard Pellet Drive, and the installation was surprisingly easy. It gave this machine the "brains" it deserves. The upgrade changed everything. The app and the data options are great, but the actual smoke production is noticeably better than it was with the stock setup. It’s like a completely different smoker now.
The Maverick itself is a beast. It’s heavy-duty construction through and through, and the size is just massive. No more playing "meat Tetris"—there's plenty of room for everything. Because of all that heavy steel, it takes a bit to get up to temp, but once it’s there, it stays rock solid.
The Smoke Cage is the real game-changer. It bridges that gap between a pellet grill and an actual offset, giving you the kind of smoke flavor and bark you usually only get from burning real wood splits. To me, it’s not even an "option"—it’s a necessity if you want the best flavor profile.
This was a super hard decision and ultimately I went this direction because I didn't want to wait for the LSG but I am glad I did. I couldn't be happier with this setup!
