My wife is always looking on Pinterest for recipes - like it’s her part-time job. Yesterday, for Mother’s Day, she “gently encouraged” me to make one of her latest discoveries… Hot Dog Burnt Ends.

Yes, you read that right. We took perfectly good Oscar Mayer beef hot dogs and tried to turn them into burnt ends.

Here’s the crime scene: https://lifebyleanna.com/how-to-make-these-viral-hot-dog-burnt-ends/

Save yourselves the grief. This recipe tastes exactly like Lil Smokies dumped in a crockpot with grape jelly and BBQ sauce…except this version requires way more steps, multiple bowls and a level of patience I usually reserve for arguing with the smoker at 3 a.m.

It actually looked pretty good on the plate though…considering I started with sad, pink wieners and a prayer.

---10/10 would NOT recommend unless your wife is watching.
---Then it’s a solid 5/10 with “happy wife” bonus points.

Interesting, but they do look good

Way to take one for the team!

They do look good. I wonder what it would be if you kept the idea but approach it more straightforward like actual burnt ends?

And add homemade dogs to it.

Write up is too funny. Hopefully she knows better now. I swear Pinterest has the WORST recipes. "Tastes just like Chili's salsa" (Not even close!) Lots of good stuff on there but not for food. Best stuff I've come across is on Reddit. Since it's anon, people are posting legit secret tips for sauces and stuff. Yeah you do have to kinda hunt for it but the info is GOLD.

Long before I heard of crockpot smokies in grape jelly and BBQ I made this and it's similar but WAY better. My wife was googoo for it in the day. https://chefgeorgehirsch.com/dailyfood/kiebasa-with-jam-sauce

I've seen a recipe for burnt end hotdogs before. Jeff Phillips maybe? Never made them because it's just seems weird. I might have to give it a go though, my little man is on a hotdog kick.
The link i saw:

That's a lot of hotdog burnt ends
Angus all beef number 5 dogs . My absolute favorite . Used to be 17 bucks for the pack of 25 .
Now it's 30 . " Wonder what happened " They only sell them by the case now , cheaper price they say .

I'm thinking more in the direction of Hot dog cheese steak .

No leftovers in fridge so 1 year old granddaughter had some hot dogs in the fridge... nuked with some ketchup and mustard, wasn't bad. Could have used some chili but....had none.

Hard pass for me personally. I'm not a sweet fan even if using sugar substitutes.
I can see serving these at a party and when the munchies kick in they would be devoured.
I'm thinking an upcoming gathering in December...

@Fueling Around - Ditto for me as well...not a fan of sweet meats.

Ha Ha , love how you spelled it out for us , and made the wife happy at the same time.

I would eat those for sure, but I also like a lot of strange foods , BUT not Lobster those things suck, lol

Have never done hotdog burnt ends per say but have thrown whole hotdogs on the smoker while doing something else like smoked burgers. In a case like that they are pretty good change for what they are
