Pellet tube or tray?

I have a Masterbuilt 30" digital smoker & need more smoke, which do you all recommend, the pellet tube or pellet tray?

I have a gen 1 30 . I bought the 12 inch tube . I mainly use it for sausage , bacon and hams . It was a little much inside the cabinet so I installed the mail box mod . I have had it burn over night when packed full . I'm not suggesting you get the tube over the tray just FYI on my set up

If you intend on putting the pellets inside the MES, it depends on what temps you want to smoke at.  The tube can handle higher temps than the tray can (it's not the metal the tray is made from, it is the way the pellets are in there as they work better in the tube at higher temps but even that has it limits).

For a mailbox mod or lower temps, either works fine, but the tube does put out more smoke.  You can also light both ends of the pellet trail in the tray for more smoke from the tray.

So it depends....
