Not new to pellet smokers, but I'm interested in smokers for us RVers. I've gone through 3 Traeger Scouts and one Table Top. Traeger now wants to send me a Ranger. Being on the road every two weeks or so makes it hard to get the big box. Does anyone else have a recommendation. I'm at an all time frustration level on the temp fluctuations with these scouts. (No matter the wood). Looking for a small pellet smoker I can store and use as I travel. TIA

My buddy bought the GMG tailgater and he is loving every moment of it. My phone has blown up with his achievements ever since he got it :-)

He's using it for exactly the same purposes as you

Welcome to the forum.
Yep a mini WSM or a WSM 14 is the ticket to mobile goodness.
Also no help on the pellet thing but quite a few people have mobile/camp model pellet poopers here.

This is the one I have and use. It has a great temp range and gets hot enough with the open flame pan to grill steaks up perfectly. I have also used it for chipotle powder cause the 150 deg temp ability. Honestly, it works as good or better (the temp control) than my Memphis Grill.... it runs on 12 volt so it can be run off a car battery :-) or from a 120 with the inverter that comes with it.

I just got a GMG Davy Crockett. So far, so good. Size wise, it is about perfect for the RV. Especially with the additional carry bag and the stock 12volt power system. I know that played a big part of why I picked it over the Camp Chef Pursuit.

Give Traeger your destination plans for a number of stops. Have them send to closest Post Office under "general delivery" for you to pick up.
My brother uses this method for receiving mail when on his 2-3 month extended travels

Not a pellethead so no advice on the various brands and products

I have a GMG Davey Crockett, camps great, hauls good. Most of the time i have a table to set it on don't like bending over. I have cooked 2 crown pork roast (at one time) out camping, artisan bread, Spiraled cut ham, briskets and burgers.

How long at 150' i want to try making my own power. I'm going to check my CC DLX24 for low setting, but i think 175' is as low as it will go.

Can put a lot of peppers on this machine for smoking.

The peppers took about 20 hours. I’ve never done onion so can’t give advice on making powder....just a suggestion, cut the peppers open to save some time....you don’t cook them but dry them with smoke...

I can second the GMG Davy. However, I took off the legs because I was tired of the cumbersome way you had to set it up. Now I just use the tiny spring legs on the body of the unit, and it works just fine. The power cord is very long, and easily allows us to set up the cooker anywhere in our campsite. I also like the precision of the PID controller, which also has a food probe for additional temperature monitoring. The unit is small, not unreasonably heavy, and economical in pellet usage.
