So with the occasional complaints of pellets swelling and jamming auger, do any of these units come with a program or manual selection to empty the auger tube or even an easy way to empty the hopper? Haven’t seen that in the few manuals I’ve reviewed.

my Pit Boss has a flap to take loose and dump the Bin, it also as a button to feed pellets into the pot and you can use that to clear the auger channel

If you're worried about that, you might consider one of the grills that has a pellet drop into the fire pot, rather than those that use the long auger tube.

Most of the grills have a pellet dump for the hopper box. Then you feed the remaining pellets from the tube into the firepot to finish the clean out.

Buy yourself a "Bucket Head" vacuum from Home Depot (<$25). It fits on a standard 5 gallon bucket (not included). It takes about 5 minutes to vacuum the pellets out and bag them. I have never had pellets swell and jam in the auger tube, but after the pellets sit in the bin for a while they absorb enough moisture to reduce the BTU's of that they produce, which results in increased pellet consumption.

Good thought. I had one I used to clear hvac condensate drain line clogs, but disappeared in last move.

I bought a small shop vac (about $30) that I keep by my grill to use in vacuuming ash from the cook chamber (which you have to do every couple cooks) as well as empty the hopper. It empties the hopper on my Louisiana Grill in a minute or so. Then you can turn the auger on and vacuum the pellets from the burn box. Easy.
