I'm pretty sure this topic has been covered here many times. I just picked up an old Louisiana Grills 700 pellet smoker and it's in pretty rough shape so I'm probably going to have its the body sandblasted and then paint it. Do you guys use a primer that's made for high temperature or do you just go straight with the high temp paint?

If you are taking it all the way to metal IN MY OPINION you should use a high heat Etching Primer. If you can’t get high heat primer just make sure to put several coats of high heat paint over the top of the primer you use. There are several paints out there that says no primer needed however what the primer does for you is smooth out the metal surface so it looks better. In addition the self etching primer allows for maximum adhesion and corrosion protection. Make sure you wipe the surface to be painted with acetone to get all the oils from people’s hands and any other contaminants off of the metal. Doing these steps will help out with the finished look.
