Have a Master Forge (Lowes) double door. My chip box from the first smoke had black chips left in it with only a little white ash. Put my new chips on top of them running @ 230F. I don't seem to be getting any smoke after about 30 minutes now. Did I do something bad? This is my second use of the smoker.

My built-in thermometer is only reading 160F. It is usually higher than actual. My Maverick is reading 230.

Aaaahhhh, I just started smoking!!! Never mind...

You need to be very close to the burner with your chips and they may have been slow starting because of the burnt ones you left in the box. I would start with fresh ones each smoke..

Also remember your looking for thin blue smoke (TBS) or no smoke and just the smell of it. If you can smell it so can the meat
