Hi Everyone, im really keen to get involved with hot smoking and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on a good smoker to start with? My budget doesnt stretch as far as a WSM so i was thinking of getting a ProQ Frontier. Does anyone else have any experience with these? also any other tips you could give me would be much appreciated. I seriously cant get wait to get started,

to the SMF, the best BBQ site on the web.  Whatever you need to know about the fine art of BBQ you can find it right here, from recipes to technical knowledge.

One thing you need to know about us is that we like to see pictures of your creations and your gear.  We call it Q-View and its basically the

So, don't just talk about your food, show it!  Otherwise you may get a gentle reminder, like this...

Glad you joined us vandaman85! :welcome1: from a North Dakota member!
I posted a few video links below comparing the two side by side. Not sure where you are located, but remember as long as it is in good used shape Craigslist is our friend!

. I think the ProQ looks a really good alternative to the WSM.

I'm from the UK, we have an alternative to craigslist here so i may look on that.

Are extra digital thermometers a necessity or can i get by on the built in temp display on the lid?

A lot of the built in thermometers on smokers and grills are not that accurate.  You don't have to have digital though, there are plenty of analog quick read one and you can even use a good oven thermometer if you need to.

Most times the built-ins are somewhat off. Besides, it is not giving you grate temp if it is in the upper part of the lid. You need to know the temp where the meat is!
