Looking forward to gaining some insights into my new hobby from this forum. I enjoy cooking but haven’t ventured into smoking yet.
Currently on vacation exploring the Route 66. Commenced in Chicago 6 days ago after 10 days in NY. Overnight tonight in Oklahoma City then diverting to Fort Worth ect. Really enjoying the trip (2 other couples) by road and the Brisket and Ribs along the way. Cheers Les

Welcome from California, sounds like you are traveling a great food route. Enjoy your stay and can’t wait to see some recipes and cooks from Australia.

Welcome Les!
I hope you can get off the path to see a bit of the Old Route 66 along the way.
Lots of old history.
Have a safe and wonderful adventure!

Hi there and welcome!
Too bad you aren't coming into Dallas first and then ending in Ft Worth.

I would recommend that if you see a Rudy's BBQ (General Store) you at least grab a large bottle of the BBQ Sause and then head over to "The Hard Eight BBQ" in the Dallas Area (Colony or Coppell) and be sure to try the brush poppers!

In Ft Worth I would recommend you try "Coopers" in the Ft Worth Stock Yards area for dinner and then walk across the street and go to Billy Bob's and watch the bull riding (it's indoors) and then take in the evening concert... especially if you are single. Billy Bob's is PACKED wall to wall with gorgeous ladies. If not single the place is still amazing and I think it is the worlds largest "honky tonk" (like country and western) bar/club/venue. You will have a blast and be sure to get your picture on the stuffed bull so you can send it back to all your mates in Oz.

Enjoy TX while you can, it's a great place!
