Hey, all, I'm new here!

For years, probably ever since seeing the first Good Eats episode with Alton Brown and his terracotta flower pot smoker, I'd decided that I was going to start smoking meat.  Unfortunately, unlike what I did after I saw his homebrewing episode, I did not immediately go out and start researching and build/buy a smoker.  Later, I visited Texas and tasted the most amazing brisket I've ever had. No "BBQ" I've ever eaten here in California has even dared compare to that beautiful hunk of cow.  Yet I still didn't buy/build a smoker.

About 7 years later--about 6 weeks ago--I decided to change that.  Starting with a simple castiron wood chip box for my grill, I made a terrible smoked chicken.  I then spent an entire work week reading amazingribs.com, bought a Maverick ET-732, and that next weekend made a delicious pork butt.

And I was hooked.  I'm kicking myself for waiting so long.

I now bought a Masterbuilt XL40 propane smoker, and in the last few weeks, I've done a brisket, more pulled pork, and some ribs.  I'm still climbing up the learning curve, but I'm already making some damn delicious food along the way.

When I'm not applying smoke, spice and heat to animal carcass, I'm tending to the needs of 3 little kids (6, 4, and 1) with my wife. I'm an engineer by trade, and a homebrewer by passion. Not to mention a rabid Boilermaker.

to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us!

We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier. If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a kindle, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per Jeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!
