My name is Mike I have recieved a Little Chief electric smoker as a gift and am excited to learn all about smoking meats. I am new to smoking meats and look forward to learning many techniques along the way. My first smoke will be tomorrow consisting of 2 whole chicken and a pork loin. Any tips would be great. Look forward to a smokey future.

to SMF!!! We're happy to have you! You have come to the right place to learn, there are a lot of great people who love to share! Would you do us a favor and update your profile to include your location, Thanks! Since you're new you might want to check out TulsaJeff's Free 5 day E-course, it really explains the basics and more:

Hello Mike and welcome to SMF! Chicken is a good meat to start with but keep in mind, the skin won't be like it is on the grill, unless you throw it on the grill a few minutes to crisp it up. I've never done a pork loin on the smoker, except cured Canadian Bacon...keep an eye on it as it might dry out. Don't forget put the chicken below the pork...don't want cross contamination.

Here's a thread just posted on chicken:

Would you mind updating your profile to include your location please? It's easier answering questions when we know where you are at.

Don't forget the q-view, we love pics of smoked goodies!

I have been reading up about the the smoker i have (the little chief) and many people are saying that the internal temp only reaches 165 to a 175 degrees. At this temperature does anyone know roughly how long it would take to cook a whole chicken about 3-4 pounds?
