Hi all,
Building my first RF, it’s 800mm long CC, 450mm long fb, with 500mm dia. All 5mm steel
What do you think?
The top of the firebox is flat to us as a skillet while smoking. I will have a basket in the fb to keep the fire contained.
I’m going to is a 100mm dia exhaust, about the same length as the cc, should this be sufficient?

Hey Chris, Nice shop!

There is a lot of smoker build knowledge here, and they should be along with advice soon. I know nothing about it so I'm keeping my mouth shut, other than to say, it looks like a good start, to me.

When I built mine I used daveomak daveomak 's calculator. It is a lifesaver. If you haven't seen it yet it is definitely the way to go. Do the math several times and you won't be disappointed. It will calculate the stack size perfectly. Length of stack above the Cook Chamber is important as well but he addresses all of that in the thread. He helped me immensely during my build.

Heck of a shop you have there! And that's a great thread! It should be made a sticky so it's easy to find. Especially as many times as daveomak daveomak Gets tagged for advice on them. Looking forward to your 1st cooks with it.

Thanks for the responses.
I will plug my numbers in once the kids are in bed, see how far out I am.
I wish that was my own workshop, I work with a college, so I use all their kit. I have access to every standard welding process and some big machines, without any of the cost.
I’m looking forward to the first cook, I will definitely let you know how it goes. I can tell you now, it will be a nice pork butt.

I, and prob most here, can't wait to see some of the results. And pork butt is a sure fire winner. Good luck and post everything you do.

A long awaited update, I’ve had family emergencies and work has actually expected me to do my job rather than be in the workshop.
I’m final ready to cut my doors and then onto sticking it together, literally.
I’m going for a 100mm (4”) stack, about 1m long. And then mounting the whole thing on 100mm casters.
I’m planning on mounting two analog gauges into the door, should they be central, or would it better to have one on each end?

Nice, do you have pics of it completed?

It’s finally ready to cook on, although not entirely finished. I’ve got to clean up and paint. Now just to learn fire management
