Well guys, my son "bought" me a smoker for father's day. I got it last week and started using it right away. It's a matter built 30" two door. I started out with some easy stuff. Did a ham steak and chicken breasts last week.

Now I'm starting my first big smoke. We are planning a father's day get together with pulled pork.

I have 2 pork butts that I'm trying. One with brown sugar and other stuff and one with just a rub. Just put them in and will keep you all posted.

Well, we are about 2 hours in. Had a wicked storm roll through for about 45 minutes. My temp was obviously all over the place for a while. I'm hoping it was early enough that it won't matter too much.

5 hours in and temps are 147.6 and 151.2.

Still looking good, so I'm off to bed. I'll see how it looks in the morning.

Temps are 175.6 and 184.2.

And here's is the Final result! They have a beautiful smoke ring. Next time, I will do some injecting to more flavor deeper in. But for my first time, I can't complain! The bark is amazing!

Our father's day meal turned out to be a success! With my first "big" smoke now under my belt, I'm looking for what's next. I know that I will be doing chicken breasts again for the 4th of July. But I think I will need more practice! :rolleyes:
