hello guys,
F4F907AD-E1B5-4759-A140-5B409339E329.jpeg

Last year i made a bbq/grill out of a old 35 gallon gas tank. I used it a few times but it isn’t working very good because i didn’t made any air intake holes in it haha. I want toput some holes in it this winter but i am not sure how big i should make them, and where to put them. The tank has a diameter of 12” and a length of 39”. Should i make 1 long air in take of +- 35” long, or should i make 3 or 4 air intakes so i can make different heat zones in the bbq? And what should be the size of the holes? Around 2/3 of an inch?

I also want to attach a firebox on it to make it a smoker. I used this nice tool to get the right sizes of the firebox etc.

And my next question is, where should i make the air intake on the firebox? Should it be under the grade or abobe it? Or should i make 2 seperate ones in a butterfly shape to get the air under the grade and above it.

The firebox will have a inside diameter of 12.2” and a length of 14.6” and will be made from 1/8”thick steel

And should I consider something else when I would like to attach the firebox? Heigth of the grades or something?

Hope to get some good tips overhere!

Put the vent hole onthe end wherd the fire box will go. That way when you add fire box no patching,no need to space out vents as it wont make different heat zones,a 4x4 hole cut with a side to side damper is probably plenty big and easy to make,no fancey butterfly cover is needed to work properly,as a grill a 1x4-5" vent should be p!enty to run it s a grill .you czn choke it down with the exhaust but you have a cleaner fire by doing the inlet air.
