Just got a brinkmann traimait le for my birthday, have never worked with charcoal before. Do I need to soak the wood chunks I'm using or do they go in dry ? Any tips would be great

Dry will work. If the pit is entirely new to you, I suggest you smoke a batch of nothing at first, just to get a feel for how the rig wants to behave.
