Need Help Filling Holes

I am refinishing my smoker and I have a few holes that I drilled thru the side. I want to fill those with some sort of material that will harden so I can sand it down and paint over it. There will be 1" of mineral wool between the material and the steel where the food will be cooking. I dont have access to a welder so it would have to be some sort of epoxy resin. Hopefully you all know of something. I am looking to do this tomorrow so I can get everything sanded down and painted on Thurs. Thanks

how about a nut/bolt and a couple washers.?

One thing that won't work is JB weld metal. I used it to to patch pinholes in an exhaust pipe. It it burned up eventually fell off. possibly some automotive muffler patch?

I have had great results with JB Weld.
Had a cracked block on a weedwacker that held for years and that thing got pretty hot.
I would probably thread the hole insert a bolt and grind flush.
Just make sure you bugger up the threads on the bolt a bit so it stays put.
