I'm considering getting a Horizon smoker so I went to my local Bass Pro Shop to check it out in person and I'm really shocked to see the gaps on the side fire box door. Did your smoker come with gaps in the side door or is this just a bad floor model? I don't want to spend that kind of money on my next smoker only to have gaps in the doors or lids.

cromag, morning..... That is what you pretty much get when you buy a low cost smoker..... Hours of fixing what should have been done at the factory....   But then they would cost more.....  Fix it or spend more to start....  buying a more expensive smoker will not necessarily get you a good smoker either...   Many members have bought so called "great smokers" only to find out, the guy that built them, did not know the intricacies  to building a good one....   Dave

I have the Horizon Ranger, the one with the vertical stack. Yes I have the same problem with the poor fit. This is what happens in our age of mass production.Quality suffers for the sake of quantity. Though made of good sturdy material it needs a few "mods" to get it into shape. I haven't had an opportunity to mod mine as yet but it still works, just not as well as I would like it to.

Well I guess since the Lang 36 model costs the same I may end up grabbing my friends trailer and driving the 7 hours down to the factory and pick one up. It'll cost more than the Horizon (gas and food) but I have a feeling it'll be a better investment.
