Hi guys,

This might be offtopic but I wanted to share my smoking progress and how this forum helped me. First it would be proper to know my background. I'm from the Philippines, a south-east asian country. I studied culinary and graduated from business management. For years i wanted to learn and know how to make smoked ribs or smoked meats. Considering my location, low and slow BBQ smoke isn't really that popular to us and there are only few to none who knows how to make it here.

I started hording all information i could get about smoking. I watched videos, read comments and theorize on how to do it. I came across this forum then joined last January. I was satisfied and delighted to know that this forum has dedicated members and will also help you whatever help they can give. Then i started to plan on how i could do BBQ smoke without prior knowledge, without having to experience or taste what real BBQ smoke is.

With the help of this forum, i finally completed my very 1st reverse offset smoker. I was nervous at first because of not knowing how to regulate fire, maintain heat and have enough supply of wood but i succeeded.

This is my very 1st smoker. it ain't that presentable but it works. that's what important, a smoker that could cook.

I started experimenting right away.

This was my very 1st smoked product! it really tasted awful. it was like burnt wood. i was laughing so hard because of the mistake and it was so hysterical because i finally could make my own BBQ smoke.

eventually, i improved how i smoked and how the quality of the meat is

as you can see, this is how i progressed with smoking.

i'm proud of what i achieved despite lacking experience, mentor, knowledge or learnings.

I'm also thankful because of this forum i could confirm and verify on things what im about to do rather than theorizing on how to do it.

a month passed by

then, it was time to expand. I was confident enough of my learning that i decided to build another smoker.

this is my second smoker. it is also a reverse offset smoker with vertical smoker/warming cabinet. i was able to improve a lot of my mistakes and faults from my 1st smoker. I upgraded all of the components and materials that was used for my 2nd smoker to achieve a much more better outcome.

the results of my smoker was better compared to my 1st smoker. the following are the result

Now that i could smoke much better, i was able to create my very own business. I successfully started a BBQ smoke business in my city and country that has no idea, knowledge or experience on what real BBQ smoke is. I was able to introduce smoking meat to my city without them having to travel to united states. They can now experience and taste BBQ smoke meats just minutes away from them. they can indulge slowly smoked BBQ meats with affordable price. I was also able to teach my customer that real BBQ is cooked low and slow.

Some of you will say that im bragging of the progress i made but i made this thread to let all of you know( new or old profiles) that because of this forum i was able to achieve all of this. Because of having this community that is willing to help you without asking in return really is a blessing in disguise. i want people to know how thankful i am with what i have now and without having to discover this forum, everything that has happened to me recently will surely wont happen.

I hope you enjoyed reading this small sharing i made

thank you all guys

godbless

You are correct that this forum is great and has been the most helpful resource I have found when it comes to learning how to smoke something or investigating possibilities.

A dream that becomes an obsession is a recipe for success. Hats off to you, sir, you are by no means bragging. You changed your culture where it matters most, in your home community. There are a herd of great folks here, no pun unintended, who are willing to share their exerience and ingredients and recipes, and thats a great start for anyone. You ran with it. Congratulations on your business and undoubtedly your home town fame.

I'm going to be in the Philippines in a couple of months. I would love to come by your shop. Maybe we can spend a couple hours talking BBQ. If that's a possibility,  let me know. And Congratulations on everything you have done. Quite an inspirational story.
