So the burners on my gaser are not working well, the rest of it is in pretty good condition, normally I would just replace them. but i have been considering buying a flat top. I could probably change it to a wood/charcoal grill. so i came here for opinions, one more bit of info I've used this for cold smoking cheese with the maze pellet not sure how well that will work, although i think i have a way around that as well.

I love my flattop, converting a gas grill to charcoal rarely works out very well, too much air flow to try to control. Charcoal grills can be had pretty cheap, Home Depot has a square 1 that is portable that works very well for around $50.

I have been thinking about replacing my gasser with a rec tec bulls eye. good price point and seems very flexible. everytime they get a shipment they sell out in minutes...

I haven't heard they has restarted making them, I think they had issues with the early ones but dont track stuff unless i'm in the market lol

not sure - I thought it was a supply issue...hmm more research needed. maybe ill wait for 2.0

no they must have them straightened out, it was right after they released them, seems to be a good alternative if you dont already have a lot of $ tied up in other cookers.

mike243 mike243 yeah, i was skulking around the rectec forum and didnt see any complaints. I like the size. I have a Weber genesis that has served us well, but i rarely if ever use more than half the grate space. its about 10 years old or more... I like the PID controller on the bulls eye. would be real nice to be able set a grill temp. not just hotter and colder.

I use my pitboss for grilling pretty often, not a lot of my cooks need a high heat so I vote for flavor more often than not. The Weber's get called into play for other duty's lol even at higher temps you still get some wood smoke flavor which you wont on a gasser.

ended up getting a table top one, was looking at other bigger ones, a lot more money than i wanted to spend, and also had a lot of features i would probably never use.
