Rubbed it with salt, pepper, garlic and a little bit of onion powder. Did it for about 2 hours on the char-griller offset using red oak. Not much of a smoke ring but it actually had just the right amount of smoke on it. Most importantly they tasted great. All in all not too bad for a first go at it.

Looks awesome.

I wish tri-tip was more readily available here in RI.When I've been able to get it I clean the store out!

Thanks! We just moved out to CA from NY so luckily tri-tip is everywhere. I won't mind practicing it again and again until I can get it just right!

Tri-tip is VERY rare around here. That pic gave me another reason why I hate that it isn’t readily available. Looks awesome.

Nice looking TT. I was able to score a two pack of choice “angus” TT from Sams Club @$5.98#. I shop three Sams in SWFlorida and only one gets them in a few times a month. The department manager must be a TT addict and knows what to order in.

I marinade them in bbq suace and that makes them really good. I’ve got some red oak I scored from some arborists cutting down one at the hospital. It’s curing still. I cut it into 4” long pieces to dry fast

That's a fine looking TT. Nice job.

Point for sure
Chris
