I found an ad for SS break metal, 9'x30" piece for $30. What is break metal? Would it be any good for a firebox or anything?

no break metal is very thin metal that can be bent easily. it would be to thin for a fire box
usally gauge material, to thin for a fire box but if it is 9'x30" its worth 30$

Can I use galvanized steel on a firebox?
Galvanized should never be used, unless you remove that coating. Google removing galvanized coating.
