MES40 Tray Upgrade kit - Modify it before installing?

Are you guys modifying the try upgrade kit at all before installing it?  I saw people drill holes in the side of the original tray unit so I want to see if that's suggested on the new one before I install it. 

Suggestions?

 I don't know of anyone modifying the upgraded unit. I didn't modify mine. I modified the original to see what I could do with it. 

 I use the AMNPS for the majority of my smokes because it works so well. I sometimes use the chip burner for short smokes.
