all,

I've fabricated a (really impressive

) tent for my new AMNPS and I'm doing a little test run with my setup as I type this, and before i do a more serious run later tonight for some celebratory new-years baby backs.  I have a technique question which is more for my own understanding.

I"ve read a lot about pulling the chip tray out to improve air-flow, etc in the MES while using the AMNPS.  most say 1-2" is about right.  My question.  Is that 1-2" from the absolute closed position, or is it 1-2" of the actual loading portion of the tray tube?  might seem silly, but just want to get it right before it matters later.  so far, 30 minutes in and I've got nice smoke going, and it the AMNPS hasnt gone out at all yet.

The chip tray and the chip loader are both pulled out a few inches from their absolute closed positions.

I was not quite sure what you meant by the "tray tube". The chip tray is the thingy (tray) that is pulled out from inside the smoker. The chip loader is the thingy (tube) that is pulled out from outside the smoker.

ahh - my bad....and I know better too.  got caught in the moment there and wasnt thinking about the differentiation between the parts.

thanks for the clarification.  right now the chip tray is in it's home position and the loader is out 2"  she's been rolling for just past one hour and the smoke has stayed nice and consistent (and thin!).  thinking i'll let it ride for now.
