I just got Char-Broil Big Easy propane smoker and was wondering if anybody uses Lump Charcoal in the wood chip box or strictly wood chips. I've got a lot hickory on the property but was just curious if there's pro's or cons to this. I have a lot of lump left over as well.
Thanks!

One day, many moons ago, I did that very thing in my Masterbuilt 30 propane smoker. I already had a cast iron skillet sitting on the chip/chunk tray and one day decided to add a chunk or two of lump charcoal with the hickory block.

As memory serves, I didn't notice a great deal of change in taste, it was there. The other benefit was the very slight change I made on the amount of gas I used.

I wasn't overly impressed enough to do this again. Just my two cents worth.

Thanks Mr Mac... I think I'll just use the Hickory I have.
