Hey everyone, I am going to purchase a smoker next month and was curios what everyone prfers. I know it's a loaded question. I'm not even sure what type I want. Electric, pellets, wood, on and on. Just looking for some opinions for an easy to operate piece and up to $600.

Thanks

Jim

Jim, I see you have the budget question out of the way, now think about a few other things.
How much will you be smoking at one time?
How often will you be using it?
How much do you want to tend to it during a smoke?
What types of things do you want to smoke?
Do you want to cold smoke too?

These questions can help you narrow down what type of smoker you might want.

There are many good smokers available in all the different types and with your budget you should be able to find a good one.

Also would you do us a favor and add your location to your profile, it helps others to know where you are when they offer advice, Thanks!

Thanks for the replies, I have tried to update my profile but says I must be active for a while.  I think a 4 tray would be plenty big enough. I will be smoking pork mostly, tenderloin, brats, pepperoni. I also would like to do a bisket now and them. Don't know what cold smoking is yet. Poundage will most likely be under 60lbs of meat at one time.

I have one of the Charbroiler barrel type models with the small barell attached to the side of the big drum. Temps vary on this everytime the wind blows. When I fire up the charcoal grill I still use msiquite while it's cooking and it always has a good smoke flavor. I guess I would like to know if there is a benefit from cooking thighs on my grill for 1 1/2 hours vs the smoker.

CK..you should be able to update your profile now.  Go to your profile and click the part that says Edit community profile....it will come up with a part that will let you put information that you want to share or not.....and where you are from.  The Location...is the first part.

Profile is updated and saved, when I look at it it says it will be viewable when I am active in the forums.

Does anyone use this as a smoker http://www.grilldome.com/  ? I am thinking this would be perfect me because I use a regular charcoal grill now and depending on what I cook it could be on there for over 2 hours. It also says that a box of pellets will last 10 hours.
