After fighting issues with my CG Outlaw w/sfb for almost 3 yrs, I am ready to change my smoker.  I going to have a small bonus coming from work so I am looking at something in the $300-$400 range and am kind of leaning toward the MES30 or 40, but what other choices are out there?  I would like something that has an almost a "set it and forget it" feature.  Something where I can start it at night and can go to sleep for at least a few hours before having to feed it again.

However I would like everyone's input on if there is something better.  Maybe pellet, different electric or a better charcoal smoker?

Side Note:

To my CG I have done a few mods for grease collection, new charcoal basket and temp control, however I am getting tired of the constant care and feeding that is required with this thing. Currently I have to feed it every 15 to 30 mins and ash removal every hour or so. There is also the matter for overall temp as well, I can get constant throughout the chamber, but not overall. It seems to climb to 300 them winds its way back down to 250, then if I am not careful it will plummet to 200 and I have to fight it to go back up.

Sorry if I put this is the wrong thread (Mods please feel free to move this as you see fit).

There are a lot of good smokers on the market, some better than others. From an electric standpoint, you are already familiar with or have researched the Masterbuilt.  There is also Smokin Tex and Smokin-it in the non-digital arena.  The Cookshack is American made and is digital, as well as pricey.  By far, the most popular electric on this site will be the MES. That is not to say that the other smokers are inferior but rather not as popular here.

I regularly start my Cookshack at night for a pork but, use a 2 ounce chunk of hickory, lock down the doors and don't think about it till lunch time the next day. Never had a problem (except when I thought more wood was better).

Good luck with your search , decision and good smoking.
