View media item 554484View media item 554485I come here often for help and assistance. Have to say it truly is the best place on earth for smoking information.

Have to clean the smoker, haven't done that yet. Had for 2 years now. Recently noticed some black peeling on the inside door. Couple people on here had some similar posts. I haven't cleaned yet and will be doing that very shortly.

Any advice on best way to clean off this black flaking stuff?

The equipment is Masterbuilt Pro

Welcome! Agreed on this being an awesome place for sure! As for the smoker, is it the coating/enamel coming off? try light scrubbing to loosen the flakes. Would think that after removal, some form of sealant or paint protector would need reapplied to prevent rusting. Not sure what coating is on the inside to be honest. I have one too but really haven't paid too much attention...

Could Possibly remove door and power wash off. Or email Masterbuilt and see if they will help on a replacement. not sure on warranty.

I'm Not really much help I guess :emoji_laughing:. But welcome none the less!

It could be just creosote. Use a plastic putty knife to scrap it off.

Scrape, wipe or brush it off re season with a bit of pam or other spray and start cooking again

If it’s the orange-peely looking stuff along the door seal you are talking about, it’s the powder coat coming off. I have had a couple MESs that this has happened to, and it seems fairly self limited (like maybe somebody didn’t wash the spicy chili oil off his hands after lunch when he was putting the cabinets on the paint rack)
I just scraped off the loose stuff, feathered the edges with a sanding sponge, scrubbed it up with acetone and hit it with some black caliper paint. Not really an issue, and it didn’t seem to be an ongoing problem.
