I just ordered this. For the price I thought the welds would be cleaner. Yikes. Would have been nice if it had some 1/2" or 1" legs on it. I had to knock off quite a few burrs. Otherwise a solid piece.

It's a firebox, not a work of art! I dont think you could get that custom made for $100, burrs or not, but burrs do tick me off. As a metalworker for years, one of my pet peeves. A couple minutes with a 4-1/2" sander can prevent major lacerations, but I'm sure they dont imagine anyone fondling those without gloves. Not really that different from buying a light fixture from Lowe's...the metal edges can lay you wide open if not careful.

I hear ya. But growing up in construction and now in the medical field, if my name is on it, I'll shoot for perfect everytime. But that's just me.

I think my point was missed again. I hate sharp burrs and I come from a metal fabrication field of highly polished welds that most people dont even realize there was a weld there. But if I looked up the right piece you have there, it's less than $100, right? I would charge at least $400, fully cleaned up and the welds ground and polished...but I would include legs if you wanted them!

Not including shipping...

$400?! I doubt many would be sold at that price, if any at all. And that is on point. I guess I'll stick with the highschool welds. The good news is it works as intended. I ran out of oak. Lump it is.

I bet they have their apprentice welders make those for practice, seeing that looks shouldn't be a consideration for something like that, as long as they don't fall apart and look somewhat respectable.

But honestly, if you're not happy with it, either call them or write them a letter, then you will see how their customer service really is.

Posting it up on an open forum, is sorta lame, give them a chance to make it right, if that doesn't work then make a gripe thread about them.

For $100 I wouldn't expect a stack of dimes, honest;y I would only expect a few tack welds here and there.

"Lame" when their name is on it 😂😂😂. Like it's the 1st one they sold. I'm not here to babysit people's work. Just a simple post of what they sent me.

Yup!!!
Lame, to complain about something that is perfectly functional because it doesn't live up to your visual needs. I'd be willing to bet that fire basket will out live you, and still function perfectly.

If you weren't happy with it, you should have sent it back with a note asking them to make it pretty. :emoji_laughing: :emoji_laughing::emoji_laughing:

Looks like there would be about 79 pierces on their plasma table then bent at a press brake then welded. Between that and the thickness that is actually a damn good value. They likely have it in to the cheapest fab shop near them if it isn't made in-house. So while the welds do look pretty not great I can see why they wouldn't put that much time into it. More time = more money that people don't usually want to pay for a production item. Margins on that are probably really tight.

It definitely worked well. Kept the wood/charcoal together. Heat management was a lot easier than having nothing in my firebox. Big difference. I would buy it again. In fact I may be buying the larger version for my bigger smoker.
