Well, I will be going back to good oldfashioned 'oldschool' cooking...  I did a REALLY bad thing yesterday. Trish surprizingly said little about the 'incident'.

I cooked a 15lb. Turkey on Flo . I couldn't find the camera (thank goodness) to shoot any shots of the whole thing , so as we say...no shots , didn't happen , but Q-view to come , as soon as I finish crying

The Turkey came out fine, but my Mavericks died...

. I cannot blame anyone but myself for doing such a "STUPID" thing.

I had started my logs in the FB and was waiting for them to go to embers when I went inside to get the Trukey.  While inside the wind picked-up and (with the FB door cracked open to give more airflow and get the fire going better) , the wood caught a gust and roared to a hot-hot temp.

All would have been alright "IF" I hadn't have already set-up the Therms. on the work shelf at the front of my Smoker. I usually wait until all is ready to go (wood going well . and smoke light and blue ) then set the equip. in place...

I hadn't noticed what happened until I went out to set the Bird on the Grates. Backs of the sending units were melted and the recioevers were saying 'dash-dash-dash' on both the food and bbq readings...

I have no-one to blame for this but myself and my inattention to what was happening , a good lesson to "go by your tried and true routine" of doing things.

So, I'm back to using my wits and experience , and a pocket Therm.

Hope you have better luck and ...

Wow Stan....

I would think it would be better if this hadn't happened...I think we can forgive the lack of q-view for such a tragic event...

Just don't let it happen again.  LOL

Good luck buddy.

Well, I tried something I heard about a long time ago...I took my 732's and put them in the freezer, left them there a day and then wrapped them and let them warm/dryout  wrapped in a Bath Towel.

Today I hooked them up and did a boil test and the food probes WORK...however the heat probes still are shot...

so all is not a bust. I can use them in conjuntion ; one for the meat's IT and one for cooking level heat.

I did call Maverick and asked for advice and they offered new Sending units for $20.25 ea. including shipping.

I can sneak $40.50 in change to replace them, will be a couple of months to gather it together , but then I'll be back in Style...

Just like it's been all my life ," if it weren't for bad luck , I'd have no luck at all..."

Actually, my luck was in getting Adopted by the Kings... my dad I find was a Womanizing Player (met him several years ago and his first words were..."What the Hell do you want?" Soooo...

And my Mom(sweet as she seemed) gave me away and kept my Brother ... what the Heck there. Later I found her and realized she liked being a Bar Fly meant more than me , my Brother was older and could take care of himself. He's in Prison now...

Anyhow , things DO kinda work-out if you let it ride...

I'm still bummed out about it , but feel things will be O.K.

Have fun and...

Well, it's not Mcguyvering, it's grabbing at straws and hoping I snag one... Yeah , I can hope , but Trish won't see it that way... I do get a surprize now and then , but as for Christmas- unless the Smoke Gods feel sorry for me , it's this for Christmas for ever more:

was told all my holiday gifts were loaded into this "forever".

Wow that is a mixed bucket of luck. Even with the misfortune of the mavericks, sounds like your ahead of the curve...... You will be back up and running before you know it..

Stan, sorry to hear about the bad luck, and happy to hear about the good luck.  Hope all works out for you.  If there is anything I can do let me know.  Steve

Thanks all for letting me "Rant" and "Cry"... I feel better now and even though I got caught-up in the Spirit of "New fangled toys" , I'll always be ... "OLDSCHOOL"
